MindCandy Volume 1: PC Demos FINAL DVD ISO with extras
Description While the demoscene was born on the 8-bit computers of the 1980s, it eventually migrated and thrived to the PC. Many hobbyist computer programmers, graphic artists, and musicians created spectacular programs to show off their talent and the PC's graphics and sound capabilities, first in DOS, then eventually in Windows. Over the past several decades, many talented individuals created amazing works of art unseen and unknown to the general computing world outside this small scene.
"MindCandy Volume 1: PC Demos" was a DVD project by Hornet, Fusecon, and Blue 7 Media, started in 2000 and completed in late 2002. Ten years later, MC1 has officially sold out! To celebrate the occasion, we are releasing MC1 under a Creative Commons license. Details of the license are below.
MindCandy Volume 1: PC Demos was created as a double-sided, single-layer DVD (DVD-9). For this release, we have included two ISO files:
- MINDCANDY_TRANSCEND.ISO: Side 1 ("Transcendental Vistas" - 1998-2001) (Windows Demos) - MINDCANDY_OLDSKOOL.ISO: Side 2 ("Kickin' It Oldschool" - 1990-1998 ) (DOS demos)
Each ISO can be burned to a single-sided, single-layer DVD (DVD-5). Also included are:
- Booklet (PDF format), cover art, and demo run-time list - Early cover samples and related artwork - Photos from our commentary recording session in Trixter's basement - Press release, various reviews, and related articles - Video CD pre-release samplers (burn to CD-ROM) and trailer video - Flyers, promo VCD art, shirt art, stickers, wallpaper, etc. - Full declassified list of easter egg locations
So if you missed your chance to experience MC1, fret no more!
This DVD was made before the era of DOSBox, FRAPS, and .kkapture. We had to capture the video the old-fashioned way, via analog Y/C output, using 2001-era technology on a small budget, including a visually-lossless workflow to avoid as much generational artifacts as possible. The NTSC video is 720x480 @ 29.97i (interlaced). MC1 was mastered for CRT tube televisions, but should still look great on any output device.
MindCandy Volume 1 was a very successful release, having sold 7000 copies. The sales of MC1 provided the seed money to make MindCandy Volume 2: Amiga Demos, and Volume 3, our Blu-ray high-def follow-up to our first PC volume. MindCandy Volume 3 is still available - visit http://www.mindcandydvd.com/3 to get your copy!
We hope you enjoy MindCandy Volume 1 as much as we enjoyed making it.
